Pic Dump 14

It has been quite a while since I posted a Pic Dump.  I have been conflicted about stealing pics from sites I like and reposting them here without giving credit to the site I saw it originally.  I do not have a large readership at all, and no one has complained, but that thought along with the fact that the Pic Dump posts are kind of a pain in the butt to do is why there hasn't been one in a while.  I tried giving credit in the names of some of the pics, but I don't always remember to do that when I save the pic.  I also don't want to get in the habit of posting one pic at a time, that is what I do when I feel I should post something but don't have anything to say.

Aside from all that, I still have the need to save certain pics at certain times for some reason so here is another dump so I can delete the stuff off my computer.  I'm not sure if this will be the last, but I am sure it will be the last that is this big.  50 or so, you can count and tell me, lol!

As usual, some you may have seen, some are nsfw, blah, blah....Enjoy!

Well?  Do it! Then click Read More below.

A Marijuana Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day, to my Mom and all the other mothers out there!  I won't be seeing my Mom today, but I did remember to get her extra special card sent out in time!

Not reflecting my Mom (that I'm aware of, anyway), but I read about Moms4marijuana in the paper this morning.  Moms have gotten tougher drunk driving laws passed and also enacted and repealed prohibition.  Groups like NORML are hoping that if the moms get on board laws will change sooner.  Good luck, I say.

On Mother’s Day- Sunday May 9th, 2010; the NORML Women’s Alliance will introduce you to a couple of Moms for Marijuana by highlighting several stories of mothers and grandmothers who hold their heads up high and proudly say “I am a mom for Marijuana.”
See that here.

Flora Flora Flora!

The plants are coming in nicely in the flowerbeds along the back of the house.  It has filled out moreso than earlier this spring or even last year(look close for this one).

The purple puffburst things, my own term, on the right are starting to bloom.  The peonies, by the drainpipe, already have buds, behind those are 3 day lilies that will bloom orangish flowers all summer.  In the center there will be three different colored Irises that we will enjoy for a relatively short time soon.  Speaking of short time, the lilacs in back (not pictured) are just about peaking, we brought some inside yesterday.  Another purple flowering plant hangs, we bought that and a nice red and white combo hanging plant for by the front door yesterday.  I planted a bunch of petunias in a big pot to go out front.  The petunias along with the hanging flowering plant out front help the look alot, in my opinion.  It looks nice out front otherwise, just kinda boring.  Also not pictured here, the lily of the valley along the garage have come back and are getting ready to bloom as well.  Blooms will be happening everywhere very soon it seems.

It may not be much overall, but it's all ours and we're loving every minute of it!

Fear The Deer!

Here's Bango, the Milwaukee Bucks mascot performing a backward dunk off a 16 foot ladder recently:

Go Bucks!  If I post tomorrow it will be late.  The Bucks can win the series with a victory starting at 6:00 my time Friday evening.  I will be watching. The last time the Bucks made a splash in the postseason I was in Jamaica getting married and on my honeymoon.  I repeat, Go Bucks!

*I don't know why I can't show the vid now, I've tried 6 times on my way to bed.  I'll try to fix it after work tomorrow. demmit. FML
Update:  It was showing html literally.  I changed the setting back but I don't know how it got switched in the first place.  Well, I know what to check first next time!

I Am A Non-Smoker...

I finished the 3-months of taking Chantix a couple weeks ago.  Since then, I have had the urge to smoke and have gained weight.  I know I have been eating more and more because I want a cigarette.  I finally shaved my chin, yet  it made no difference, I just found another one!

It gets harder and harder to lose weight the older I get.  Most often it happens when I'm sick.  That's usually in winter and I'm usually really miserable.  Not a good diet, in all.  Gaining, on the other hand, seems to happen easily anytime, but especially now.  The most I have ever weighed happened the last time I quit smoking (for 5 months, about 2 years ago).  That was just a half stone more than I weigh now.  I do miss smoking, but not enough to start again just to lose weight.  I can breathe deeper, cough deeper and laugh deeper than I could in a long time.  Mornings I still have some clearing out to do, but it is getting easier.  My sense of smell hasn't really improved much, maybe that comes later.

Sigh.  Everything I enjoy is bad for me.  Moderation, I guess.  FML

I need a 'Sign-Off'

I just updated at my garden blog and realized that I usually end a post with an exclamation mark.  I know that I tend to write as I speak, which doesn't alway convey the whole or intended meaning.  I do find that I try to finish a post on an up-note.  Most often that is expressed with that particular punctuation.

Salutations have suffered in this digital age, unfortunately, but I feel the need to say 'Thanks for reading my stuff, I'm done for now,' without being formal or awkward.  I'll have to think about this a bit.
Methinks the cat was on to something...

Which reminds me - on a different note, I loved today's Garfield cartoon! (There it is again!  uh-oh!)
I'll try to edit that in here later.

Ta-da!!
Here it is - and since I blatantly stole the screencap, give them a visit here.

Bye Bye Attu

Attuworld is gone from my list on the right.  I have had Attu on my list of sites that I regularly visit for over 10 years, they are one of my oldest.  But I cannot take their ads slowing me to a crawl or crashing my browser anymore and will not recommend them to anyone.  I am disappointed, but it's just not worth it.  Goodbye Attuseesall/Attuworld.

Why I don't believe in God

Not much has been happening the last few days, mostly resting and doing the mundane things.  I haven't had much to say lately so I'll share this article I've had saved for a while.  I've always considered myself agnostic, as far as I understood it.  I'd like to be trendy and say atheist but my strict catholic upbringing, I think, makes agnostic as far as I can go.  This article sums up my views on Why I don't believe in God.

Tree Limb Update and More

Here's what that big ol' tree limb that fell on Easter looks like now.  I have to find a place to store it now for a year or so, until it dries out and can be used as firewood.  We received a Firepit thing last Xmas that we haven't used yet, so I tried to cut the pieces small enough to use in that.

Yesterday my wife and I got haircuts  (mine was just trimmed, no difference, really) and we ran errands and went out for breakfast in the morning. So I found time to finish this in the early afternoon.  I hadn't heard back from the neighbors with the chain saw so I just did it with my neighbor Jane's bow saw and I used my circular saw for help on the bigger end.  (We gave her a bottle of wine to thank her when we returned her bow saw this morning, she's a very nice person.)

After that I took a nap for a couple hours then we got all dressed to the nines for my sister in law's wedding reception.  They got married on St. Patrick's Day in Jamaica and this was their celebration for friends and relatives.  My wife and I got married in Jamaica as well (about nine years ago) but did not have a reception when we got back.  We didn't feel the need, but alot of people really enjoy this kind of thing.  I managed to avoid the hockey score all night so I could watch it on tape after we got home.  I'm disappointed we lost, but it was still a great season.

More Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord is supposed to tour the states soon and I would go see them.  I won't travel far, but if they come to the Madison area,  I will be there.

When it comes right down to it, I just have fun listening to them.  I try to justify it to myself, but it's just one of those guilty pleasures that just so happened to be unfolding publicly here on my blog.  No this has not become a fanblog, but this is the vid that sold me on it...    NSFW!

Yolandi Visser is a good reason to like Die Antwoord.  Her look and high voice are unique, and I'm obviously not the only one that thinks so...

Sex Ed is Criminal???

A Wisconsin idiot religous zealot is at it again.  Thankfully there is Florida, but otherwise Wisconsin would be in the running for most asshat state for this kind of news.  A few days old, but still incredible enough to pass on in case you missed it. I've already heard it on one of my podcasts I listen to and expect to hear about it on one, maybe two more podcasts that I subscribe.  The Onion Radio News could just read the real thing and people would think it is made-up...

----
I'll be getting my postponed haircut this morning, then alot of stressing about what will be nothing but fun, I'm sure. Also, Wisconsin plays in the NCAA Men's Hockey National Championship Game tonight against Boston College, the team we beat for the championship back in '06.  Go Wisconsin!  I'll no doubt recap this day somewhat later...

 Have a good weekend!

Die Antwoord - Doos Dronk

I really wish I could understand all the languages they're speaking.  Most of the dirty stuff seems to be in english, however.  (Read: NSFW!)
Yes, I still have this South Afrikaan Zef*/Rap group in my head.  After my last post on them I sought out their album, $O$, which I understand they released for free last year on their website.(No longer available there, so if you'd like the link for the album you can email me and I'll send it to you.)  I've been playing it a few times a day ever since.  What can I say, I'm almost embarrassed but still fascinated.   Here's a live performance of the dramatic 'Doos Dronk' with some of their friends.  Enjoy.

*Zef, I've read, is roughly translated as 'redneck.'  Die Antwoord, by the way, means 'The Answer.'

One Year Blogging

Yes, it has been exactly one year since I got drunk, went exploring and started this blog.  240 posts, that's about 2 out of every 3 days.  Eh, what the heck, I'm still having fun and entertaining myself.  This blog hasn't grown exponentially or anything.  That's not what I tried to do.  Still, it would've been nice if some more people I know took this seriously.  Unfortunately since I don't do facebook or myspace, cell phone or text messaging, twitter or instant messaging, I seem to be left behind most of them.

I just don't have the time, energy or inclination to expand my 'social network' more.  I welcome people here, yet shun looking for them elsewhere.  Hell, I still enjoy reading all of the physical daily paper I have had delivered every day since forever, and I'm even having a hard time finding that time.  How do these other people divide their time?  What sacrifices do they make to do all that I mentioned above?

I'm just here, just me.  I remind people of that now and again, but they know where to find me by now.  I have made a few virtual friends online.  Some I would love to meet and chat up over a few drinks.  Some I admire from afar.  Some I just enjoy friendly banter with and an unspoken mutual respect.  Some are an off week away from losing me.  The internet has made us a fickle people, unfortunately.  Too many demands and never enough time to do everything you want or feel you should.

This will post Thursday morning on the First Birthday of my blog.  Now I'm out of time and must go to bed so I can get up and do overtime tomorrow.  Then the Badgers play in the Frozen Four right after work.  Sometime tomorrow evening I'm getting my hairs trimmed as well.  No time for blogging.

Thought for the next year:  Take the time to make the time...  or the other way around.  Good Night.

Unexpected Easter Fun

I was in the garage this morning getting ready to go out to lunch with my wife and my father-in-law who had not yet arrived.  Crash - Crack - Boom!  I heard it happening but waited until it was quiet to look out.  A huge limb had broken off the big Silver Maple in the back yard and became stuck on another branch - barely.

First of all I had mistakenly thought this was like any other Sunday* and stores would be open for shopping for a reception we have coming up soon and getting dirt at Ace to start filling in the garden.  With that plan scrapped we were going to go out to lunch then assemble another large shelf downstairs like the 3 others that we have.

Back to the story:  About 5 minutes after it happened, FIL arrived.  I sent them to lunch anyway, not much they could do here, and I tried to figure out what to do.  My neighbor, Jane, was home and offered to go get her sister's pruning saw.  That turned out to be a huge help.  I managed to prune as many of the little branches off as possible to lighten it.  While I was out front piling up sticks another neighbor, Bea, said hello.  I asked her if she had any rope, since I nor Jane had any.  She came down a few minutes later with some clothesline that I thought should work.

More pruning and more cleanup so I wouldn't trip then I climbed a ladder and tied it to the branch as high as I could reach.  That higher leverage made dislodging it very easy.  Boom!  Perfect, it fell between the garage and house missing everything.  It didn't even take down the (unused) phone line, but it did bounce off it pretty dramatically.  I should have taken the pics before I picked up all the branches to show the full effect, but first things first.  Posting this was on my mind - because I grabbed the camera, but there was work to be done.

Shortly after, a small thunderstorm passed through so these pics of it fully cleaned up - except for the large piece to be cut up and removed later - are from inside the porch.  Other neighbors have a chain saw so hopfully all will be gone soon.  I really like being a part of a neighborhood.

*The previous post I had scheduled earlier last week because I figured I would forget it was Easter.

Happy Easter

I'm not one for religious holidays (but I enjoyed the paid half day off Friday).  Here's my contribution to Easter.  After all, muppet bunnies are always a good thing, right?  Happy Sunday!

Die Antwoord - Enter the Ninja

Many thanks to Joanne Casey for this.  I first heard the song a few months ago when a podcast I listen to used it as the closing song.  It's haunting chorus kept me going back to play it again and again.  The last couple days this has come back to haunt me as I have been going back to see the video again and again.  Anything I pay that much attention to I have to pass on to you here, so here it is:  (Warning - Adult Language)

Strangely fascinating, huh?  Here's the only other 'official' video of them that I found:

First Cookout of the Spring

Last night our friends Bridget and Zubin came over to help us with the garden and to grill some food. The helping part didn't take long at all so there was much time to talk, eat, and enjoy what was the nicest day of the year so far - until today, anyway. My wife thinks this picture is good, she said it looks like Zubin is in trouble! I like the background, too. You can see the plants coming in nicely. We even have a first bloom! Over Bridget's left shoulder there is a small white flowering plant. We have no idea what it is, we didn't see it last year. In the middle of the pic are irises. Last year there was a large clump of yellow ones on the left corner by the drainpipe. I chopped that up and traded with a nice lady, Donna, from work. This year should be Yellow, Pink, and Purple all mixed up in there.

Thank you for your help and a fun night, B&Z! We need to come up with more excuses to get together like that!

Buzz Gets A Lift

Before (Friday)                                                                                      After (Monday)

Buzz Burbank took one for the team and got a facelift last Friday.  Dr. Bruce Freedman (plasurg.com) was the first sponsor of The Mike O'Meara Show podcast.  They had him on the show a few weeks ago and arranged for Buzz to get a facelift for the show.  He is the oldest and was almost eager to have it done.  The videos were posted yesterday for all to enjoy!  Part 1 is actually not too hard to watch, the bright light bleaches out most of the gore.  Part 2 is a little more graphic.

He is awake and chatty throughout, yet very drugged.  A little over 7 minutes into the first vid he discusses the same study that the Man Flu article I posted Sunday was based on.   Buzz, always the ladies man...

You can see part 2 here.  Visit TMOS homepage here to listen to Monday's 'Big Reveal!'

Earth Hour/Human Achievement Hour

Earth Hour or Human Achievement Hour?  Lights on or lights off?  All very well meaning, I'm sure.  It seems like harmless fun to me.  It lets some people feel like they have done something and even feel like part of a greater community for the common good.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I don't care what these people are thinking as long as they continue thinking...

Thanks for the reminder, Uncle Bill.

Hello, just checking in.  I haven't been posting much because I have been doing some overtime lately.  Also, this week is my turn for the 'difficult' project at work.  My patience is frayed, my back is sore, and my feet are sorer.  Saturday I plan on building the garden so soon there will be more news here.  Other than that, all is well.  I hope you are enjoying the weather warming!

Dementia - The Band

A week or so ago I emailed posts from my last two shows I attended, W.A.S.P. and Ace Frehley, to an old friend of mine from high school.  I had a few drinks and was missing my old heavy metal buddy.  You see, he lives in another state now, and is married with 3 kids.  We haven't been close in quite a while, but we always seem to touch base once or twice a year anyway.  We had a short exchange the other day, so I was thinking of him while surfing bands on youtube.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's he was in a band - before the digital era.  Even so, I entered the name of his old band, Dementia, to see what I could find*.  After all, there are old videotapes that someone may have converted to share.  I used to be able to find their 1991 CD, 'Recuperate from Reality,' on Amazon (for like 50-60$!), I haven't checked in a while, though.  I was hoping to see something live on the youtube, but here's all I found.  Still, I doubt he knows it's there, until I forward him this post!  I hope it makes him smile!

Dementia - 1991 - Say Your Prayers

*There are a couple of other bands with the same name, so if you look I guess you'd have to know it when you see it.

Clutch

Clutch is a band that I first heard of about a year ago.  I liked what I heard, but didn't really investigate them.  Since then I've seen them mentioned here or there, another video or two.  They will be in Madison in early April and I don't know if I'm curious to see them or not.  I've looked at a few live vids from February and I'll listen to their latest album online to check them out more.  First impressions, they have a powerful lead singer, videos and live, but I think they lack on guitar, especially live.  I might like them more if they had a second guitar player, better guitar player, or just turned it up a little.  I've seen the lead singer play guitar on some, that might help.  Hmm, I enjoy this kind of research, now I shall go check them a little closer...

This is the first video that I saw a while ago:  Clutch - '50,000 Unstoppable Watts'

Edit:  Here's the same song live from last month in Australia.  Maybe I was too harsh earlier on the guitar sound, we'll see.  I'm still looking...

Edit:  This video would be bigger, but I would have had to sign in to Youtube (it was flagged for content).  I used to have an account but can't find or get into it and this wasn't a big enough reason to tackle that right now.  Maybe I'll work it out one of these days...

Packers Watch

Yes, following the Green Bay Packers is a year round obsession for us diehards.  This space is not about sports but a couple developments made me want to share.  First, it was announced yesterday that Robert De Niro will play Vince Lombardi in an NFL film due to be released the week before the Superbowl, 2012.  I can't say I disagree with the pick of actors.  Actually, I hadn't ever thought about it.  But De Niro, I think he will do a better job than anyone else that comes to mind.  All this said, I don't really watch alot of movies let alone venture out*, but I am looking forward to this now!
ESPN has more here.

*'Alice in Wonderland' looks very interesting, however.

Secondly, the Packers will wear an alternate color scheme now and again for the next few years.  Yes, it's another throwback jersey thing.  It will be similar to the 1929 look (left), with modern mandated upgrades.  It's kinda neat when football gets real ugly!

Colorized pic is from the Green Bay Press-Gazette.  They have the whole story here.

That's all I have.  It is a very active time right now with free agency having just begun.  You can find all that stuff elsewhere.  Here's to a great offseason!

BTW, I did do that 'Teenage Audio Test" on Monday night when my ears had mostly settled down.  I still passed.  I didn't even need to turn up the speakers.  I'm dumbfounded.  Not really.  I know my hearing is less than 100%.  I have to have a phone up to my right ear, my left doesn't work as well.  Besides, you just know if your own hearing has diminished.

Sunday Night Reviewed

Sunday night's show went as well as I expected.  There were three opening bands, with W.A.S.P. hitting the stage about 10:20 and playing until 11:40.  I got home about quarter past midnight and was in bed 20 minutes later but didn't fall asleep until well past 1:00 am.  My alarm went off at 5:00 am and I got up grudgingly and somehow stayed awake at work all day.

It was a shame to see them on that small stage. I don't think the club wasn't planned out very well.  Not for seeing live bands.  TV's (turned off) on the right were almost in the way and an odd corner jutting out on the left that the bass player had to watch out for.  After the first couple songs, Blackie stopped to apologize for half the show being out in the truck.  He told the Madison media that it was going to be the whole show setup but then found out someone lied to him about the stage size and ceiling height.  It didn't matter much to me, though.  They were there, they played well, and I enjoyed every minute.

I sat back at the bar (sipping my water) until right before W.A.S.P. started.  I had no intention of clawing my way all the way up front -I'm too old to do that anymore- but I found a nice space directly in front about 20 or so feet back from the stage.  It got crowded when they started playing but I had my spot.

I was very surprised that I didn't see many familiar faces at all.  Only one, actually, and I knew he would be there because he was in one of the bands.  Mostly I was one of the older ones in the room, top 15 or 20%, I'd say.  I'm ashamed of my former metalhead brethren.  They all probably have their hair cut short and have 2 or 3 screaming kids and a nagging wife who they didn't even bother asking if they could go because they didn't want to listen to her bitch.  That's what I'm picturing in my mind anyway.  Losers.

No videos on Youtube from this particular show yet, but I did see many people recording.  For now, and since I'm just in the mood, here's a recent one that I will replace maybe if something is posted from Sunday night soon.  Oh, and the T-shirt I bought looks just like the one Blackie is wearing, #25.  It's my new favorite shirt!

W.A.S.P. Show Tonight

I have always hated it when shows were on a school night, but as the bands I love come around less and less I'll take what I can get.  W.A.S.P. will be across town at Scatz tonight.  What could be a reliving of my youth seems more like a lesson in how old I actually am.  I have been down with a cold again (second this year so far), my back is pretty touchy today, and I have to get up at 5:00 am to get to work.  Still, I wouldn't miss this show for the world.

The first and only time I saw W.A.S.P. was in December 1984, if I recall correctly.  They were opening for Kiss on the Animalize Tour at the Dane County Memorial Coliseum (now called the Alliant Energy Center).  I was very close to the stage and a little to the left.  I still have pictures from that show somewhere.  I snuck in my little Kodak 110 camera.  Only a few pics turned out, and none of the W.A.S.P. pics.  I think I was 17, so it has been over 25 years.

I will be going alone, although I expect to see many familiar faces from the old days at the (long gone) Black Bear Lounge.  The heavy metal bar in Madison in the late 80's and early 90's.  At the most I may have a drink or two upon arriving, otherwise it will be a sober evening.  I will be flying out of there as soon as the show is over to get home, unwind, and hopefully get enough rest.

Wish me luck!

You must see these, sooo cute..  Thank you Joanne, I have noticed you following.  I'm flattered.

Boat not Noah

I had a recent exchange with a podcaster that I listen to about every week or so.  Part of it was, I asked him to give my little blog here a look and I would welcome any advice he had to give me. He mentioned having a title that people could spell and pronounce.  I hadn't thought of it like that, I guess.  Then again, I'm not really sure what I'm doing here anyway, really.  I'm not looking for any commercial success or widespread whatever. (I know I did add some ads lately.  That was just me playing with this blog.  It kinda looks like a real blog now, huh?)  When it comes right down to it, this blog is 90% for myself.  Most of the rest is because it is an easy way for my family and some friends to know I'm well and what I'm doing.  I have never been referred to as a great communicator, I still don't have, need, or want a cell phone.

The word 'scoakat' is something I came up with when we got our very first computer and had to come up with names for these pesky username thingies.  What it is, is simply my and my wife's names combined: (not yelling) SCOTT AND KATE, SCO A KAT.  I have always pronounced the OA like boat or goat, not like Noah or boa.  It always rhymed with 'go cat' in my head.  My word, my grammar rules.

Oh, I can see how it seems difficult to pronounce or remember for other people.  People have had trouble pronouncing my last name for as long as I can remember.  1 in 100 gets it right and 95 of the other 99 say it as this podcaster did on the last show.  (Yes, he read my email on the show and I was horrified for about 3 seconds, then realized nobody I know listens.  Just as well, they probably wouldn't care if they did.)

So, Podcaster, thank you for having a look.  That makes me feel good.  I probably would have a link to your podcast here but, you must admit, the podcast was updated pretty inconsistently for a while there last year.  It has been like clockwork lately though.  I'm not going to link right now,  that would be too obvious.  I'm afraid my family may look you up instantly.  Anyway thank you for the advice,  it did open my eyes to something I hadn't considered.  If I want to get bigger I will think about changing the name.  For now, I think I'll just keep posting for me and the few visitors I do have and go from there.  Maybe just fade in to oblivion or suddenly just sto

6 Days Until W.A.S.P.!!!!

Well, I made a random wish here Saturday night and an even better wish came true today!  I do like Faster Pussycat alot, but W.A.S.P. is easily in my top 5.  Here's what happened:

Despite everything else going on with our respective days, my wife and I decided to go to The Malt House after work, knowing that our friends Bridget and Zubin usually go there on Mondays.  They have tried to talk us into it in the past, yet Monday is not really our best day.  So we thought we would surprise them if we saw them.  We were on our last drink (my third, Mrs. S' second), when they arrived.  It's alway nice to see them and now it should happen more the warmer it gets.  After a while all three of them stepped out for a smoke, obviously (if you have been reading my blog) I stayed behind.  I started to thumb through this free music rag and there was the ad.  Wasp was going to be nearby in less than a week, next Sunday!   We left almost immediately after they came back in, although we would have left shortly anyway since we were done with drinks.  10 minutes later I was getting my ticket.

This happened kind of like when I found out about Ace Frehley coming last year.  I don't know what I'm missing but I got to get in on the ground floor on this stuff instead of finding out this much later.  I think this was originally 'announced' in mid February.  I need to know this stuff as it happens.  It could mean missing out on something I would enjoy immensely.

Here is W.A.S.P. performing the new single "Crazy" less than 48 hours ago, Saturday night!

Sunday Stuff, Cat Pics

I'm stuffed.  We went to Wilson's for lunch with my father in law.  Soon the USA takes on Canada in the men's hockey gold medal game.  And I found a few pics of our cat, Puddy, on the camera from a couple weeks ago.  She needs brushing, but she always needs brushing since she makes it such an ordeal when we do do it.  I hope your having a relaxing Sunday!
