Right now, Truax Field, home to 1200 Airmen of the 115th Fighter Wing, has an aging fleet of 21 F-16 fighter jets. The new F-35s are to start arriving in 2023. These jets can provide air protection for anywhere in the Midwest and at 1200 m.p.h. can be there in minutes.

Personally, I think it will be good for the area. We live in the main flight path, and we have jets now already. Yes, they do get loud, but only for seconds at a time and I find them fascinating to watch. They go by so very fast that by the time you look up they're almost past, thus I've wanted to get a short video but have always been unable. They usually go in twos, but even knowing that I've not been quick enough when I've been outside. The new jets will be louder and the amount of flights is supposed to increase, but again, it lasts for mere seconds. I know the new jets have been in and out of here at times already and I've not really noticed any difference. I look forward this summer to trying to get video of the jets, new or old, now more than ever.
On a similar subject, I noticed an email at my blog gmail account (top right of the page) from the other day with the subject line 'Dane County Regional Airport Guide.' At first I thought it was one of those spam comments we get on blogger, like when I post something about plumbing then get a comment from a robo-English speaker complimenting me on my work then going into their agenda and spam links. But this was not a comment notification, it was an email from the Media Relations Manager for the Dane County Airport. In her email she noted my blog post that was probably found in a google search, a post from June last year.
Apparently they've updated their website and she was wondering if it was possible for me to include a link on my site. Okay, here it is, an informational airport guide website, but the official website still appears to be here. Look at me, now seemingly an actual member of the media! Wait, now that I type that I'm not so sure that's a good thing...

Ooh! F 35's, noisy, not great for the environment but how cool is that. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your footage although at that speed it might be a disappearing speck in the distance.
We see aircraft around here practicing but again often at a distance.
Truax airport is the second largest of eight airports in Wisconsin...googles size of Wisconsin and realises it is bigger than England and Wales combined. Blimey!! Now there is a sobering thought.
If you were at home all day every day, you might feel differently about flights and noise increasing.
I've been PML at all the people near Coven South moaning on the community websites about how many planes are over-flying currently. About a twentieth of those that normally overfly (as the airport in question is mostly closed, except for freight and emergency flights)... but these people have never been there all day every day before.
In the past, they've been asked to support the community in opposing un-consulted on changes in flightpaths (on a technicality) and they've refused - and some of them quite/very rudely. Mr BW has told me that I mustn't start posting on those boards... I don't currently do any forums/social media other than my blog, but I am sorely tempted to make an exception and post "HAHAHAHAHAHA, SERVES YOU RIGHT YOU SELF-CENTRED *****!!!!!" every time someone complains and says that 'someone' should do 'something' about it. Someone and something that they didn't previously want to know about. Hmmmm.
Maybe bigger, delcatto, but only one-tenth the population.
BW, I still don't think it will be a bother, but that's me. I enjoy watching the planes go by when I'm outside. In fact, I usually pause what I'm doing just to watch. Inside we barely notice regular planes. The jets are louder, but brief and manageable.
And I agree, the less social media the better! But again, that's me.
I'm considering a fire again tonight, so maybe I'll get lucky with video. We've had very cool temperatures recently, 20's at night (-6), 30's in the day (3), but today should be in the upper 40's (9) this evening so I think I'll take advantage.
