Street Reconstruction Part 11, More

It appears we're ready to have a new street installed very soon.  There's not been a whole lot of activity lately other than grading and compacting the gravel.  They didn't work at all over the weekend, so maybe Monday.

I've not had many fires this year, and I've kept short the few I've had.  It was either too hot, too windy, or I was just too tired on weekend evenings.  Now, with cooler weather and an earlier sunset I may get out there more.  I did get out there for a bit on Friday evening.  It was nice, but I did build it up and let it burn down in just a few hours rather than spend all night.

And Basil got a visit from a neighbor cat.  People aren't supposed to let their cats out here in the city but many do, even despite the construction and large machinery going back and forth all day.

On my way to pick up groceries this morning I noticed an odd sound as I arrived.  I didn't see anything outside the car so kept the radio off and paid close attention on the drive home and I heard horrendous noises coming from the car.  I'm not sure what's going on, but first thing in the morning I'll have to try and get it into the shop.  I can use my wife's van sometimes, but I need my car.

Ah, I never realised that was an official thing. That might explain it a bit.

Hope the car is an easy fix and not too expensive. We're having that problem at present too. Fix one thing and then on to the next issue...

Yes, per city ordinance, as in most cities here. I used to take my last cat out on a leash occasionally, and if these two reacted better when we tried taking them out when young then I'd let them out in the yard when I'm with them, but they (Basil) didn't.

I'm expecting expensive, and it already is. It's booked into the shop I go to and trust for Monday, though they might get a chance to take a look at it this week. A rental car is costing me about 100 bucks a day, though I will get some of that back upon return. All rather confusing to me, really. I'll reflect on all the numbers here once I get the car back.

That doesn't sound good about the car and I can empathise with you there, especially when you are reliant upon it for work.
I hadn't realised there were city ordinances against letting cats out. I sincerely hope that doesn't catch on over here. Cats have to be chipped now which I do agree with as missing cats can be found quickly.

The British government (DEFRA) recently decreed that everyone who owns chickens have to register them with the government. The system broke down as people *ahem* registered chicken McNuggets, frozen chickens, toy chickens or identified as chickens!

I hadn't heard that delcatto, it made me laugh. It's a totally ridiculous situation, now having to register even just one pet hen with the agriculture department (the scheme is meant for farm animal registration). It used to be only over 50, now it is any number. But I haven't heard about that scheme *coughs*. Has the scheme been abandoned now?

I suspect the scheme will return but what if my cats identify as chickens? I have to respect their beliefs and register them as such.

That's a good one, delcatto! Ridiculous responses befitting ridiculous rules. But if you register the mcnuggets (individually?) or frozen hens, can you still consume them or would you possibly have to explain their absence to ridiculous enforcers?

A certain small number of chickens are allowed at a residence in Madison. We've had them in the neighborhood but only known from sight or word of mouth, never been noisy or a bother to us. The biggest concern here in the city would be attracting rats, I hear.

Letting your cats out here doesn't draw much complaint from us, but for when they put them in danger: construction zones, temperature, or traffic. We never see a dog running loose or roaming. And chips are not required here, but we do have ours chipped though they stay indoors.

Just add a C to that for cats identifying as chickens. Why not? I respect the notions, but the growing acronym is long enough to be ridiculous now, too.

More about the street and car news coming soon. I hope to post later tonight, but it's been a long day so maybe tomorrow. Thank you both.
